The Building Department is responsible for issuing Building Permits, performing inspections on all building components, and enforcing building codes and ordinances. The main purpose of this Department is to provide support and inspections for new construction, buildings and remodeling of structures for compliance with local, state and federal laws. Plan reviews of new construction, additions or remodels are also handled by this Department. Once construction plans are reviewed and approved, a building permit will be issued. Per the City’s Building Code, “No person shall begin work without a valid building permit.” After the building permit has been issued, inspections can be scheduled. When all inspections are completed, a Certificate of Occupancy will be issued as the final step in the process. Building Inspections should be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
